“Shop the Store” Makes Local Shopping Easy at Stine

CLIENT OVERVIEW

Stine Home & Yard is a regional home improvement retailer with deep community roots across Louisiana and Mississippi. Known for its strong in-store service, Stine aimed to extend that personalized experience online.

As Stine grew its online presence, the company aimed to deliver the same personalized service customers enjoyed in-store through its digital platform.

Because Stine wanted to offer a more local and seamless way to shop online, they were a great fit for Salesforce’s new “Shop the Store” feature, which shows real-time inventory by location.

BUSINESS CHALLENGE

While Stine had an established e-commerce presence through Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC), it lacked the ability to provide store-level inventory visibility to customers shopping online. This posed several issues:

        • Shoppers had no way to confirm product availability at their local store before visiting or choosing pickup.
      • The absence of real-time local inventory filtering reduced confidence in Buy Online, Pickup In Store (BOPIS) options.

With a goal of improving customer trust, reducing friction, and increasing BOPIS adoption, Stine needed a future-ready solution.

THE SOLUTION: "SHOP THE STORE"

Salesforce introduced a pilot program for its new “Shop the Store” feature, offering early access to build and test the functionality. It’s a fulfillment method where shoppers can browse for items via an ecommerce website and place and order for pickup at a local store.

ForkPoint and Stine were one of the organizations invited to participate in this pilot phase.

This program introduced two core features:

OUR IMPLEMENTATION APPROACH

We built a custom Store Locator feature that allows users to select a store early in their journey. That allows filtering the list of products and their availability across the site.

We utilized Salesforce’s new APIs and SFRA shop the store UI components to display local availability information:

  • PLP Integration: We created a filter that shows all available products at the chosen store.
  • PDP Integration: Show product stock based on selected store and show availability for the rest of the stores.

To maintain speed and responsiveness, we leveraged the new Salesforce’s native inventory APIs, reducing the need for custom workarounds or data syncing. The result was:

  • Improved page load times.
  • Lower infrastructure overhead.
  • Streamlined data pipeline for inventory updates.

By integrating real-time availability with existing BOPIS options, we ensured a smoother and more seamless process:

  • Customers can check if an item is available for pickup before they even add it to their cart.
  • Location filtering is respected throughout the entire web-site.
